Tiny House Village for the Homeless
Primary Partnerships: Catholic Charities, Vets Village, Kenton Women’s Village, City of Portland
This was a very innovative project offering an outside the box solution to houselessness. The concept of the village was to create self-governing, self-sustaining communities for people experiencing houselessness. This includes tiny houses. Food by Design was invited to start a community farm for the first village called the Kenton Women’s, a tiny house village for Homeless women. We ran a farmer training program and a food as medicine program. We also taught a business development class and helped the women create an urban farming business called Soul Sister Harvest. The second village that was designed was for veterans where we installed a village farm and ran food as medicine courses and farmer training courses.
